Inniswold drivers have plenty of shops closer to home, so here is why many of them point the car toward Perkins Road. Gordon & Sandifer is a family-owned shop on Perkins Road in Baton Rouge that has been in business since 1956, and it is about 12 to 17 minutes from Inniswold. We are in our third generation, and we have kept customers for decades by doing one thing consistently: telling the truth about what a car needs. We inspect, explain, separate the urgent from the stuff that can wait, and start only with your okay. And because mechanical repair, tires and collision repair all happen under one roof, a single visit can cover the whole car, even after a wreck.
A repair shop does not stay in one neighborhood for seventy years by overselling. Gordon & Sandifer has been family owned since 1956, BBB Accredited since 1967, and staffed with ASE certified technicians and an I-CAR certified collision team. We show you what we found and let you make the call.
Customers tell us they come back because nobody pushes them into work they do not need, and because the prices make sense from one visit to the next. Some families have trusted us with their cars for 20 or 30 years. We work on domestic and Asian cars, SUVs, minivans and light pickups.
Local traffic lives on Jefferson Highway, Siegen Lane, Bluebonnet and I-10, with plenty of highway miles and plenty of construction. That mix shapes the work we see most from the area: alignments knocked out by rough pavement, regular oil service for busy commuters, AC repair for long hot summers and collision repair when traffic goes wrong.
Wheel alignment is the first thing to check if the steering wheel sits off-center or the car drifts on I-10. Potholes and lane shifts in work zones can push the toe and camber out of spec, which wears tires unevenly. We check for worn parts first, then align.
An oil change keeps highway miles easy on the engine. Heat and stop-and-go traffic count as severe service in many owner’s manuals, so we go by your manual and the oil-life monitor and give the car a quick look while it is on the lift.
AC and heating repair is close to a safety item in a Louisiana summer. If the air is weak, smells musty or turns warm at idle, we test for the actual cause instead of just adding refrigerant.
Collision repair rounds it out. We work with most insurance companies, guide you through the claim and handle the body, paint, alignment and sensors in one building.
Many carmakers suggest an alignment check about once a year, and sooner after hitting a deep pothole or curb. With highway work zones and patched pavement on the way in and out of the neighborhood, a yearly check is a sensible habit. New tires, suspension work and collision repair are also good times to align.
Signs you need one sooner include a pull to one side, a crooked steering wheel when driving straight, or tires wearing on one edge. If worn tie rods or ball joints are part of the problem, we show you before we touch the alignment, since aligning over loose parts does not hold.
The drive is about 6.4 miles and takes about 12 to 17 minutes in normal traffic. Take East Inniswold Road to Cal Road, then Bluebonnet Boulevard to I-10, and follow I-10 to South Acadian Thruway. Our shop at 3825 Perkins Rd is a short way from the Thruway.
Since the drive is longer than a hop down the street, after-hours drop-off helps. Bring the car by after work, leave it with us overnight, and we’ll call you in the morning with what we found. We are open Monday through Thursday 7:30 AM to 5:00 PM and Friday 7:30 AM to 3:00 PM.
Inniswold is a neighborhood of about 6,000 people covering a little over two square miles near Baton Rouge. It is now part of the City of St. George. Jefferson Highway forms its northern edge, Siegen Lane the east, I-10 the south and Bluebonnet the west, where Westminster sits across the road.
Interstate access is a big part of life here, with I-10 exits 162 and 163 serving the area. That makes the drive to Perkins Road mostly highway, and it puts plenty of interstate miles on local tires and brakes.
Smaller neighborhoods sit inside it, including Acadian Place. Plenty of residents share the same schools and the same commute.
Jefferson Terrace Elementary serves almost all of the community, while Westdale Middle and Tara High serve most older students. That means a lot of morning school traffic on Jefferson Highway and Bluebonnet.
Expert tip: After a hard pothole hit, look at the steering wheel on your next straight stretch of road. If the logo sits crooked or the car drifts, have the alignment checked before uneven wear eats into a set of tires.
Follow your owner’s manual first, and if your car has an oil-life monitor, let it guide you. Synthetic oil usually allows longer intervals than conventional oil. Heat, short trips and stop-and-go traffic count as severe service, which often calls for the shorter interval listed in the manual.
If your manual and your monitor disagree, call us and we’ll walk through it with you. We will never push you into changes your car does not need, and we keep records so you can see when service was done.
