Baton Rouge drivers have brought their cars to Gordon & Sandifer for auto repair since 1956, and the shop is still on Perkins Road, still family owned and now in its third generation. We work on domestic and Asian cars, SUVs, minivans and light pickups, from a Toyota Camry or Honda Accord to a Chevrolet Silverado 1500 or Ram 1500.
Our approach is simple. We inspect the car, explain what we found, separate what needs attention now from what can wait and get your approval before any work starts. Mechanical repair, tires and collision repair all happen under one roof, so we can fix the whole car, even after a wreck, without sending it to a second shop.
Gordon & Sandifer has repaired cars from the same Perkins Road location since 1956, and the business is now in its third generation of family ownership. Customers stay for decades because the shop tells them plainly what the car needs and what it does not. The shop has also been a BBB Accredited Business since 1967.
Many of our customers have brought us their cars for 20 or 30 years, and some families are on their second or third generation of drivers with us. That loyalty comes from fair, consistent prices and from never selling someone a repair they don’t need. Our ASE certified technicians handle the mechanical side, our I-CAR certified technicians handle collision work, and you can read more in our story.
Our auto repair services cover the maintenance and repairs most cars, SUVs and light pickups need: brakes, AC and heating, check engine light diagnosis, alignment, suspension, tires, oil changes and collision repair. Each job starts with an inspection and a clear estimate, and you decide what gets done before we pick up a wrench.
The full list of auto repair services has a page for each. Here are the jobs drivers ask about most.
From a weak battery to a squealing belt, our general auto repair work covers the everyday problems that keep a car off the road. We explain the problem in plain words and tell you what can wait.
Stop-and-go traffic on Perkins Road, College Drive and Acadian Thruway wears brakes faster than highway driving. Our brake repair service checks pads, rotors, calipers and fluid, and we replace only what is actually worn.
A Louisiana summer with 90-degree highs and heavy humidity makes the AC close to a safety system. Our AC and heating repair work starts with finding the leak or failed part before anything gets recharged.
A trouble code gives a starting point, and real diagnosis means testing before any parts get replaced. Our check engine light diagnostics find the cause and lay out your options in plain terms.
After a crash, our I-CAR certified technicians repair body damage and match paint, and our mechanics handle the alignment, suspension and sensors in the same building. We work with most auto insurance companies to help you through the claim. See how our collision repair process keeps you informed from estimate to pickup.
Our shop is at 3825 Perkins Rd, a couple of blocks from Acadian Thruway and a short drive from College Drive and Southdowns Shopping Center. The Perkins Road Overpass district is up the road to the northwest, and University Lake and the LSU lakes are about a mile to the west.
Tiger Stadium is about 2 miles west, so we’re an easy stop if you work near campus or downtown. Ongoing I-10 widening has brought ramp closures near Perkins Road, so allow a few extra minutes.
Yes. At Gordon & Sandifer you get a clear estimate before any work starts, and we tell you what needs attention now and what can wait. The cost depends on the vehicle, the parts it needs and how much labor the job takes. A brake job on a Toyota RAV4 and one on a Ford F-150 use different parts and different time.
If the estimate needs to change once we’re into the job, we call you before doing anything more. Fair, consistent pricing is a big reason customers keep coming back year after year.
Quick jobs like an oil change or a tire rotation are often done while you wait. Brake, suspension and AC repairs usually take longer, and timing depends on what we find and how fast parts arrive. We give you a time estimate when you drop off the car and call you if anything changes.
For a quick visit, pour a coffee in the waiting area, use the Wi-Fi and we’ll come find you when it’s ready. For longer jobs, the after-hours drop-off lets you leave the car on your way home and hear from us the next morning.
Local driving is hard on cars. Summer highs in the 90s with heavy humidity keep the AC running most of the year, wear out batteries and break down fluids and rubber. About 62 inches of rain a year means worn tires and wipers matter, and potholes after storms knock wheels out of alignment and wear out suspension parts.
Stop-and-go traffic on Essen Lane, College Drive and I-10 counts as severe service in most owner’s manuals, which can mean shorter maintenance intervals. Hurricane season runs June 1 to November 30, and a look at tires, wipers, battery and fluids before a storm is time well spent. Avoid driving through standing water, which can damage the engine and electrical system.
Follow the maintenance schedule in your owner’s manual, and use the severe service schedule if most of your driving is short trips, stop-and-go traffic or hot weather, which describes a lot of local driving. Many newer cars have an oil-life monitor that tells you when an oil change is due.
We look over belts, hoses, tires and fluids at each oil change and tell you what we see. Brake fluid absorbs moisture, and many carmakers call for replacing it every 2 to 3 years, which matters in a humid climate.
Look for a shop that explains what it found, shows you the worn part when it can, gives a written estimate before starting and tells you what can wait. Long-time customers, ASE certified technicians and a long record in one neighborhood are good signs. Gordon & Sandifer has been on Perkins Road since 1956.
Our technicians would rather tell you a repair can wait than sell you something you don’t need. If we find nothing wrong, we say so.
Our shop is open Monday through Thursday from 7:30 AM to 5:00 PM and Friday from 7:30 AM to 3:00 PM. Call (225) 343-3427 to set up a visit, or stop by with a question. If daytime hours are tight, use the after-hours drop-off and we’ll call you the next business day.
