Perkins Road has been home to Gordon & Sandifer since 1956, and we are still right here on Perkins Road at 3825, between South Acadian Thruway and College Drive. If you live, work or shop along the corridor, from the Overpass district to Southdowns and beyond, you are already in the neighborhood. Our family is now in its third generation running the shop, and our promise has not moved: we are the honest family shop that can fix the whole car, even after a wreck. Oil changes, check engine lights, alignments, tires and collision repair all happen in one building. We explain what we find, separate what needs attention now from what can wait, and only start when you say yes.
For 70 years, Perkins Road drivers have watched Gordon & Sandifer do things the same way: inspect, explain, get your approval, keep you informed. We are family owned in our third generation and BBB Accredited since 1967. A shop that upsold its own neighbors would not still be on the same road decades later.
Why people along the corridor keep coming back:
Many customers have been with us 20 and 30 years, and their children now bring in their own cars. That is what being an auto repair shop in Baton Rouge for this long looks like.
Stop-and-go driving on Perkins Road, short trips and Baton Rouge heat all count as “severe service” in most owner’s manuals. For many cars, that means changing oil on the shorter interval your manual lists. Follow the oil-life monitor if your car has one, and we will check it at every visit.
Synthetic oil handles heat better and lasts longer than conventional oil, and many newer engines require it. We use what your manual calls for.
Being this close means a lot of our neighbors drop in on the way to work or between errands. These four services are the ones we see most from the corridor, and they all happen under one roof with one team that knows your car.
An oil change is the easiest way to stay ahead of trouble. While the oil drains, we take a quick look at belts, hoses, tires and fluids. Have a seat in the waiting area, pour a coffee, and use the Wi-Fi while we work.
When a warning light comes on, our check engine light diagnostics go past the code. We read freeze-frame and live data, test the suspect parts, and then tell you what we found and what your options are.
Potholes after heavy rain and patched lanes near the interstate ramps are hard on front ends. A wheel alignment fixes pulling and an off-center steering wheel and protects your tires. We check for worn parts first, because an alignment only holds on a solid front end.
If a wreck happens, our collision repair team handles the body, frame and paint while our mechanics take care of the alignment, suspension and AC condenser. We help you through the insurance claim so the car never bounces to a second shop.
The Highlands and Perkins part of Baton Rouge stretches south of I-10 along the Perkins Road corridor and takes in LSU. It is home to about 55,500 people and is a place where most folks get around by car. That makes a dependable shop close to home a practical thing to have nearby.
About two-thirds of a mile northwest of us, the Perkins Road Overpass district fills the blocks under the overpass where Perkins crosses the railroad tracks, between City Park and the Garden District. Locally owned restaurants, bars and shops have made it a gathering spot for decades.
Farther out the road, BREC’s Perkins Road Community Park at 7122 Perkins Rd holds the Extreme Sports Park, with a large concrete skatepark and a BMX track. BREC approved a master plan for the park in 2026, so more changes are coming.
Closer to home, Southdowns Shopping Center is less than half a mile away, and our Southdowns neighbors sit just off the road between Perkins and Bayou Duplantier.
If your check engine light comes on near Perkins Road, first check that the gas cap is tight. A steady light means the car should be checked soon, while a flashing light means an active misfire and you should ease off and have it looked at right away. Do not clear the code, because that erases the evidence.
Bring it to us, and we will read the data and test before we replace anything.
Gordon & Sandifer is right here on Perkins Road at 3825 Perkins Rd, about a fifth of a mile from South Acadian Thruway and about half a mile from College Drive. If you are coming from the interstate, the I-10 widening has brought overnight closures of the Perkins ramps, so check before you head out at night.
Our after-hours drop-off makes it easy to leave the car on your way home and hear from us the next morning.
Wheel alignment cost on Perkins Road depends on your vehicle, whether it needs a two-wheel or four-wheel alignment, and whether worn parts like tie rods have to be replaced first. Some newer cars also need a sensor calibration afterward. You get a clear estimate before any work starts.
If nothing needs adjusting, we tell you that too.
Gordon & Sandifer is at 3825 Perkins Rd, Baton Rouge, LA 70808. We are open Monday through Thursday from 7:30 AM to 5:00 PM and Friday from 7:30 AM to 3:00 PM. Call (225) 343-3427 or stop in and tell us what the car is doing.
The shop is closed on weekends. You can also contact us online or read more about our Baton Rouge auto repair services. Seventy years on the same road has taught us that the neighbors who trust you with the small jobs are the ones who call first after a wreck, and we intend to keep earning both.
