The Lobdell and Woodale area sits along Florida Boulevard in Baton Rouge, and Gordon & Sandifer is about 10 to 15 minutes south on Perkins Road. Lots of people here rent, and finding a shop you can trust is a real question when you are still learning the area. Here is our answer. We have been a family-owned shop since 1956, now in the third generation, and we have kept customers for decades by explaining what a car needs and what it does not. We inspect, show you, tell you what can wait, and start only when you approve. We also fix the whole car under one roof, from tires and suspension to collision repair after a wreck, so you deal with one shop and one set of people.
Gordon & Sandifer has been family owned on Perkins Road since 1956 and BBB Accredited since 1967. ASE certified technicians handle the mechanical work and our collision team is I-CAR certified. The habit that has kept us going is simple: show you the problem, explain it in plain words, and let you decide what gets done.
Customers have stayed with us for 20 and 30 years because the prices are fair and consistent and nobody gets talked into extras. If you are new to Baton Rouge, that is a good kind of shop to find early.
Driving from this part of town means Florida Boulevard, Lobdell and the streets around Wooddale, much of it under active road work right now. Rough pavement, lane shifts and stop-and-go traffic shape the cars we see from the area: worn tires, tired suspension parts, oil changes that come due quickly, and collision repair after a fender bender.
Tires are your first line of defense in a Baton Rouge downpour. We check tread depth, pressure and wear patterns, repair punctures in the tread when it is safe to do so, and tell you honestly when a tire needs replacing.
Suspension and steering repair handles the clunks, rattles and wandering that rough streets cause. Construction edges and potholes are hard on ball joints, tie rods and struts, so we check them and explain what is worn.
An oil change covers a new filter, a fluid top-off and a quick look over the car. City driving counts as severe service in most owner’s manuals, so we follow your manual’s schedule.
Collision repair is the other half of what we do. We help you through the insurance claim, fix the body and paint, and handle any alignment or suspension damage in the same shop.
Try the penny test: put Lincoln’s head into the tread upside down, and if you can see the top of his head, the tread is near the legal minimum of 2/32 inch. In heavy Louisiana rain, you want far more tread than that to resist hydroplaning. Uneven wear, bulges or cracks also mean it is time to look.
We check all four tires on every visit and tell you honestly how much life is left. If a tire has a nail in the tread, it can often be repaired. A puncture in the sidewall cannot be safely repaired, and we will tell you so.
The drive is about 4.4 miles and takes about 10 to 15 minutes in normal traffic. Take Florida Boulevard to South Ardenwood Drive, then Government Street to Jefferson Highway, then College Drive down to Perkins Road. The shop is at 3825 Perkins Rd, a short way from South Acadian Thruway.
For suspension or collision work that takes the day, after-hours drop-off helps. Leave the car with us after work and we’ll call you the next morning with a plan. We are open Monday through Thursday 7:30 AM to 5:00 PM and Friday 7:30 AM to 3:00 PM.
This is a busy Baton Rouge area of about 10,000 residents, many of them renters, centered on Florida Boulevard. Road work, parks and a big public library all sit close by, and the daily drive here changes month to month while the boulevard is redone in sections.
The city’s MOVEBR Florida Boulevard Corridor Enhancement broke ground on its second segment on April 9, 2026, running from North 22nd Street to Airline Highway. It brings new pavement, sidewalks, multi-use paths, signal upgrades and drainage work, so expect lane shifts for a while.
Wooddale Boulevard, spelled with two d’s on the street signs, runs north off Florida Boulevard through the neighborhood. It is the main local route for many residents heading to Florida.
The BREC Botanic Garden at Independence Park sits on Independence Boulevard between Airport and Lobdell. It opens daily from 7 AM to sundown and makes an easy evening walk.
The East Baton Rouge Parish Main Library at Goodwood is built right into Independence Park beside the garden. Baton Rouge Community College is also nearby, about two and a half miles away.
Suspension repair cost depends on which parts are worn, how many need replacing and what you drive. A sway bar link is a small job, while struts or control arms take more time and parts. You get a clear estimate before any work starts, and we show you the worn parts before you decide.
Most suspension work is followed by a wheel alignment so your tires wear evenly. We include that in the estimate from the start, so there are no surprises when you pick up the car.
